Lothar Collatz SeminarTuesday, January 31, 10-12 am in GEOM 127, Bundesstrasse 55 Wei Gong Finite element approximation to parabolic equation with measure data and its application to optimal control Abstract: In this talk we will consider the finite element approximations to parabolic equations with measure data, especially we consider the parabolic problems with measure data in time and space. This kind of problems are motivated from parabolic optimal control problems, such as parabolic optimal control problems with pointwise control or pointwise state constraints in time. The existence and uniqueness of the solutions to this kind of problems are argued by using transposition techniques introduced by Lions and Magenes. We derive the a priori error estimates for both the semi-discrete and fully discrete finite element approximations. As an application, we also consider the finite element approximations to the parabolic optimal control problems with pointwise control. We give some numerical experiments at the end of the talk to confirm our theoretical findings. This is a joint work with Professor Michael Hinze and Dr. Zhaojie Zhou.
